The Winning Mentality
We all have a human desire to be the winner. Our culture celebrates winners. We never, or rarely, celebrate the loser. Turn on your tv and watch a game show or sporting event. You will see examples of what I’m talking about all over. Translate that concept to being a frugal family. You want to win that game as well. You want to do it for your family. You also want to do it to toot your own horn to friends and co-workers. Admit it, many of you go home and say, “Honey, let me tell you about the amazing deal I got on these shoes!” Now, how many of you go home and say, “Wow, I just got ripped off; it was awesome!” I’m assuming this never happens, nor would you advertise your defeat. Our society encourages us to be winners. We want to be winners. Being the frugal family is all about winning. Getting the best deal possible and celebrating as a family. That discounted meal tastes all the sweeter when you won and can celebrate it with your family. My 9 year old gets it and loves knowing when we got a great deal. She celebrated with me the other night when we fed the entire family on a $2 full-size pizza. Look at every deal as a victory. You just won! Try it, celebrate it as a family, and it will become infectious. You will be developing that Winning Mentality.
